As I close in on the end of the 90 Day Experiment - July is month 3 of 3 -
I have a HUGE announcement to make! I AM A PAID WRITER!!!!
On June 29,
I’ve been on Substack since January, and hyper-focused during my 90 Day Experiment that started in May, but you should know that this was a completely random, organic thing that happened. I share a post here weekly and write notes daily. Sometimes one note, sometimes more than that but really, I just keep consistently showing up.
That’s the greatest lesson I’ve learned here so far: consistency.
This year, I have a goal to earn a minimum of $2,000 a month as a paid writer.
One of my income strategies would be so to say,
If all of my subscribers sent me $5 a month, I could then have dependable income instead of random, inconsistent income. It may get me to my income goal eventually as my subscriber count increases, or it may not, but it would be a start to earning consistent income.
So, what if I did this? Benefits of $5 a month -
1. It’s not a subscription; it’s a month at a time commitment. Easily sent through my Venmo link.
2. I write a weekly blog post and share it here - mostly I focus on life lessons that are universally applicable to your life, too. I share life lessons through storytelling.
I write about travel, too with an itinerary and planning guide.
3. I post notes, daily - some are restacking with insights. Some are my own random thoughts. Either way, I always try to focus on being encouraging and motivating.
Yes, the $5 a month you send me doesn’t get you anything “extra”, but it does support my work. Think of it as the concept of a “virtual tip jar”. A restaurant worker provides you service regardless of whether you tip them or not.
I’m going to write posts and notes regardless of the “Buy Me Coffee” funds.
In theory, I’m currently working and not earning any tips.
THAT is what the Buy Me Coffee option is for. If you were inspired, encouraged, motivated or any other positive feeling occurred after reading one of my notes or posts, a $5 (or more) tip is greatly appreciated!
And yes, there’s a paid subscription opt-in set up if you want to do that, too.
But I wonder if this model of earning “Tip Money” would work?
There’s currently 64 of you on my subscribers list, so I guess I’ll wait and see!
I’ll give you a shout out in the next newsletter and as a note, too!
If you missed my earlier posts about The 90 Day Experiment, you can get caught up:
Month 1: May-June
Month 2: June-July
As I start Month 3 - July-August - I find that I still have more questions than answers but I’m starting to gain some clarity.
Clarity in that using Substack as a tool to earn an income as a paid writer is possible.
Clarity that I don’t really need a “niche”, I just need to write.
Clarity in that the people that I need to help me figure things out are already here.
The focus in this last 30 days will be to implement what I’ve learned so far.
I’ve learned SO much that I’ll need to have a plan to implement a little at a time, not all at once.
Currently, my strategy is to break the 30 days down into 4 weeks - that will bring me to around August 9th. The focus is on marketing and pitching myself for income-based writing opportunities. If you have suggestions for that, I'd love to hear them!
Then, I’m taking time off for the rest of August.
I’ll resume September 1 with a new 90 Day Project Experiment. I’ve already decided that this method of working is a great strategy for me, hyper-focus for 90 Days and then start a new cycle. Thanks
And yes, I’ll have a summary, and results post at the end of the 90 Days.
Stay tuned!
One of the things I’m seeing more and more on Substack is the slowing down of content creation for the summer. I decided that was a good idea for me, too so I’m starting to repurpose old blog posts in the form of “reruns”.
This week, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on FB and Instagram from my friends who visited Maine this summer and it reminded me of our most EPIC adventure trip there last summer! Grab a beverage, get comfortable and enjoy this long-form post - the link will take you directly to my website.

HELP NEEDED:
One of the things I’m considering as part of a paid subscription is a weekly Newsletter done as an advice column. I’m 51 years old, and as an avid learner and someone who LIVES a very full life, I have a lot of wisdom about various topics.
I get most excited about organization and strategy when it comes to planning projects, trips, etc.
I LOVE Household Management strategy to make day to day living easier.
I’ve been an entrepreneur since 2012. I’m a “Multi-Passionate” Entrepreneur.
I’m thinking about maybe doing a topic per week - so I’d need 50 Topics or 25 and repeat (I take two weeks’ vacation every year).
Maybe call for questions on Monday and Tuesday and publish on Friday or Saturday?
The newsletter would be Q&A style and I would offer my very best advice -
Let’s try this for the week of July 14-18. If you have a topic and question, reply to this and let me know!
Did you know? I’m a published author!
My book, “Building My Yellow Brick Road: Life Lessons from Pursuing a Dream” is EIGHT years old this month!
I wrote and published this in about 18 months and have sold almost 300 copies.
If you are shopping Amazon prime days, you can add a copy right to your shopping cart! There are 30 Life Lessons in the book that are applicable to your own life, too!
AND, a great story to read along the way -
Oh look! Here’s the “Virtual Tip Jar” option! THANK YOU!
