Life Lessons from a Professional Pet sitter
Life Lessons from a Professional Petsitter (that work for humans, too)
Food is a good way to make friends. Treats work especially well. All the animal wants to know is if you are safe. Kind words and slow actions help.
Sometimes, gaining trust takes a long time but once you have it, you have it.
Correcting behaviors takes time and patience. You have to show what you want, not just tell. Treats (positive reinforcement) work well here too.
Pets act different when their owners are around. Mostly, they are more calm, less aggressive. As long as you understand WHY they behave the way they do, you can adjust your actions accordingly.
Most importantly, owners just don’t want worry about their house or their pets while they are on vacation. Essentially, this is the most important part of the job - to not have the owners stressed out.
Each of these are true of our relationship with other humans too: food, safety, trust, patience, and understanding the reason behind the behavior
Ultimately, relationships should be the antidote to stress, not the cause of it.
